Hi! My name is Madeleine Mottel and I am a NYC-based Textile/Surface Designer and Illustrator.

I enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Illustration in 2014. I was in the Illustration program for 3 years until I switched majors to Textile Surface Design, marrying my illustration skills and keen eye for design. I graduated from FIT in 2019 with a BFA in Textile/Surface Design and an Associates Degree in Illustration. I also minored in Art History.

I've always had an artistic hand and a passion for art and design. Growing up, I took art classes using a variety of mediums such as oil and acrylic paint, gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, charcoal, collage, and mixed media. My favorite is gouache because it's versatile- you can use it opaquely or as a watercolor.

I have 4.5 years of working in the Home Textile industry under my belt. My favorite designs to create are for kids where my whimsical illustration style translates into novelty and conversational prints for juvenile bedding. I also love to play around with color. I get my inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram, stores, and forecasting sites.

Currently, I create most of my art digitally with Adobe Fresco and Procreate. On my free time I like to make greeting cards which started as Birthday Cards for family and friends.

A few things I love are...
